Spotlight on the Baltimore Chapter of the AHS

We're shining the spotlight on the Baltimore Chapter of the AHS! We caught up with chapter president Jacqueline Pollauf, who shared her insights and strategy for maintaining a healthy, active community of harpists involved in the Balitomore area.

What are some fun events that your chapter hosts?

One of our favorite events is an annual informal student recital. We invite students from all around the Baltimore area to attend and play a piece (or a portion of a piece) in a supportive and casual atmosphere. We also provide snacks so everyone has a chance to mingle and get to know some other area harp students.

Do you have any beloved traditions?

At the beginning of January, we like to have a "Post Holiday Dinner". Since harpists are so busy throughout December, we wait until the holidays are over and then get together for a relaxing evening.

What makes the Baltimore Chapter community so special?

We are always happy to meet anyone who enjoys or plays the harp! We can (and do) talk about the harp all day.

What are you most proud of about the Baltimore chapter?

Although we are a small chapter, we have been in existence for over four decades. Each year, we have a couple of small events and we are happy to be continuing our mission.

Anything else you'd like to add?

Several years ago, spearheaded by our member Elaine Bryant, we helped to conserve Eliza Ridgely's harp at the Baltimore based Hampton National Historic Site. Our efforts helped draw attention to the project and fundraiser for the needed conservation.

Thank you for sharing, Jacqueline! Learn more about the Balitmore Chapter of the AHS on their website.
