Spotlight on the NY MetroHarp Chapter of the AHS

We're shining the spotlight on the MetroHarp Chapter of the AHS, located in New York, New York! We caught up with chapter president Chelsea Lane and the MetroHarp board, who shared their love of the vibrant, diverse community of harpists in New York.

What are some fun events that your chapter hosts?

The NY MetroHarp Chapter offers a variety of events throughout the year that bring members together and foster creativity. Some of our favorite recent events have included a "Singing and Songwriting on the Harp" workshop led by Lucia Stavros, a coffee social, a picnic potluck, and a Valentine's Day-themed harp ensemble concert, all of which have provided opportunities for both musical growth and social connection.

Do you have any beloved traditions?
One of the chapter’s most beloved traditions is hosting receptions following events. These gatherings serve as a space for community-building, allowing members to connect, share experiences, and strengthen relationships in a relaxed setting.

What makes the MetroHarp Chapter community so special?
What makes the NY MetroHarp Chapter truly special is its rich and diverse community in New York City. The chapter thrives on its ability to celebrate local harpists, and there is a strong spirit of enthusiasm and support among members for honoring one another’s accomplishments and artistry.

What are you most proud of about the MetroHarp chapter?
The chapter is especially proud of its recent efforts to bring NY MetroHarp into the digital age. In the past two years, we have created a new website (metroharpnyc.org) with a members-only portal offering exclusive interviews and recordings of past events, established a growing presence on Instagram (@metroharpchapter), and expanded our quarterly newsletters. These efforts have helped MetroHarp broaden its reach and ensure that more harpists can stay informed and connected.

Thank you so much for sharing, MetroHarp!
