Lucille Garlock

Lucille Garlock, 98, of Skaneateles passed away Friday, June 26, 2015. Born in Utica, Lucille called Skaneateles home for over 60 years. She loved the lake and enjoyed gardening and her "pony". Trained as a harpist by Grace Weymer Follet, Lucille won the NYS competition for the harp while a student at Nottingham High School. She was an active member and former president of the CNY Harp Association. Lucille was also member of Order of the Eastern Star and former member of the United Methodist Church of Skaneateles. She retired from her position in the purchasing department with Onondaga County in 1974. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Carl Garlock in 1989.

Sherj DeSantis of the Central New York-American Harp Society writes, "For many years, 98 actually, Lucille Garlock has lived an amazing life. She played harp in the window at the old Clark Music store in Syracuse when she was 4 to 6 years old, served as the president of our American Harp Society, Central New York chapter, was in the huge harp concert in Syracuse, NY about 83 years ago under the direction of renowned harpist Carlos Salzedo, and played harp for Norman Vincent Peale. She was a great believer in Peale's philosophy of 'The Power of Positive Thinking' ".

She is survived by her son, Drew (Lois) Silvieus of Cygnet, OH; a grandson David Silvieus; a granddaughter, Cheryl Silvieus of Mesa, AZ; her niece and nephew, Robin and John Jones, Jr. of The Villages, FL; great-grandchildren, Gabe and "DJ", great-niece and nephew Tiffany and Christopher Jones; and many wonderful neighbors.
