AHS 10th Summer Institute and 20th National Competition

The City of Angels and the Colburn School of Music welcome you to the 2013 American Harp Society National Institute. This Institute will have a special emphasis on chamber music. In addition to the illustrious Lyon & Healy Awards and the AHS National Competition, there will be many recitals and masterclasses featuring outstanding artists from the Southern California region and special guests from across the nation. The Institute will also be commissioning new works for chamber music and there will be plenty of performance opportunities for student soloists and mixed-instrument chamber groups.
The Colburn School provides the highest quality music training in a state-of-the-art complex located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles across the street from Disney Hall (home of the LA Philharmonic) and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (home of the LA Opera). The AHS Institute will enjoy events in the concert and rehearsal spaces and post-concert receptions on the beautiful plaza. Attendees may choose to stay in the dorms or in one of the many local hotels. The Colburn cafeteria offers excellent fare, and restaurants of all kinds are within easy walking distance. http://www.colburnschool.edu/
Institute Attendees may wish to extend their visit and explore the local cultural and entertainment attractions. Olvera Street is just a short ride away, with its Mexican crafts, restaurants and historic buildings. LA's China Town is also nearby, as is the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, which regularly hosts multiple exhibitions, films and concerts. Southern California’s beautiful beaches, Universal Studios, Disneyland, and other famous theme parks and entertainment centers are all a short drive away. These are just a few examples of the entertainment and artistic delights for visitors and residents in downtown Los Angeles.
